01 · What you get

A clear report, not a vague score.

Everything is checked on your real store, as it is right now, and explained in plain words. You don’t need to know what “structured data” is to use it.

Score

An AI readiness score

One score for your store, one for each product, and one for each of the five areas below, so you know where you stand.

Fixes

Fixes, most impact first

Each fix says why it matters to AI assistants and how to do it in Shopify, step by step. Many need no developer at all.

AI view

What AI actually sees

For every product, what AI shopping agents get from Shopify, and for your top product the text a crawler reads without JavaScript. If something’s missing, you’ll see it straight away.

Top products

Your top 3 products

I start with the products your homepage features, the ones you want people to buy. Otherwise, the products Shopify’s AI channel lists first. I only open pages your robots.txt allows.

02 · What it checks

25 checks in five areas.

Based on what Shopify’s AI shopping channel returns, what AI crawlers can read, and the structured data they use. No guesswork about secret ranking formulas.

AI shopping channel

What Shopify’s own channel for AI shopping agents returns for your store: are your products there, complete, in stock and categorized?

  • Products available to AI shopping agents
  • Title, image, price and in stock
  • Product category set

AI crawlers can read it

AI assistants that search the web send crawlers, and most don’t run JavaScript. If your description, price or rating only appear after scripts run, they never see them. Blocked crawlers see nothing at all.

  • AI crawlers are allowed in robots.txt
  • Sitemap listed in robots.txt
  • Description is in the HTML
  • Price is in the HTML
  • Rating is readable without JavaScript
  • Page title and meta description
  • Canonical URL

Product data on the page

Structured data (JSON-LD) on your product page hands crawlers the price, stock, brand, rating and barcode as facts, so they don’t have to guess them.

  • Product structured data
  • Price, currency and stock in structured data
  • Brand in structured data
  • Product identifier (GTIN / barcode)
  • Rating in structured data
  • Shipping and returns in structured data

Answers shopper questions

Assistants explain and quote your product data. Full descriptions, clear structure, descriptive titles, image alt text and named options give them something to work with.

  • Description length
  • Easy to scan (lists, headings, specs)
  • Clear product title
  • Image alt text
  • Clearly named options

Trust and policies

Shopping agents read your refund and shipping policies and your contact details to answer shoppers, and prefer stores they can identify.

  • Refund / return policy
  • Shipping policy
  • Contact information
  • Store identity in structured data

03 · Shopping inside AI chats

Can people buy inside ChatGPT?

Partly, and it keeps changing. Here’s how it works today, based on Shopify’s and OpenAI’s own announcements.

Discovery

Shopify sends your products to AI channels

Through Shopify’s Agentic Storefronts, products in Shopify Catalog can appear in ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google’s AI Mode and Gemini. Eligible products are included by default, and you can manage each channel from your Shopify admin.

ChatGPT

Found in the chat, bought on your store

Shoppers discover your product in ChatGPT and finish checkout on your own store, in a browser inside the app. OpenAI has moved away from checkout inside the chat itself.

Copilot · Google

Checkout in the conversation

Copilot Checkout, and native checkout in Google AI Mode and Gemini for select merchants, let shoppers pay without leaving the chat. Buying through these channels is currently limited to US shoppers.

Your part

What you control: your product data

Every channel works from the same things: titles, descriptions, images, prices, stock, barcodes and policies, plus what crawlers read on your pages. That’s exactly what this checker looks at.

04 · Privacy

No sign-up, and nothing hidden.

No account, no email

Nothing to sign up for. You get the full report on this page.

Only public data

The checker reads Shopify’s public channel for AI shopping agents, plus your homepage, robots.txt and one product page, like any crawler. No login, no token, no admin access, no app to install.

What is stored, and for how long

The store’s address and its report, for 24 hours, so you can reload or share the link. Then both are deleted.

Your IP address is never stored

To enforce the limit of 3 checks a day, a one-way scrambled code made from your IP is kept for 24 hours. It can’t be turned back into your IP.

Site analytics

Visits to this site are recorded anonymously with LogRocket so I can see where pages are confusing. The store you enter and your report are hidden from those recordings.

A polite checker

It identifies itself as CROdeveloperChecker, with a public agent profile, and obeys your robots.txt. If a store asks it to slow down, it stops instead of trying to get around it.

05 · Questions

AI search and Shopify, answered.

What is GEO (generative engine optimization)?

Making your pages easy for AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Claude) to read, understand and recommend. For product pages it overlaps a lot with good SEO: clear, specific content, structured data, and pages that crawlers can read without running JavaScript.

How does ChatGPT decide which products to recommend?

Nobody outside OpenAI knows the exact method. What is public: ChatGPT search reads pages with its OAI-SearchBot crawler, Shopify products also reach ChatGPT through Shopify Catalog, and Shopify names data completeness, structured formatting, up-to-date price and stock, and shopper engagement as factors. This checker covers the parts you control on your own pages.

Does a high score mean AI will recommend my products?

No. A high score means assistants can read and understand your product pages. Whether they recommend them also depends on your prices, reviews, brand, demand and the alternatives out there.

Can customers buy my products inside ChatGPT?

They can find them there. Through Shopify’s Agentic Storefronts, eligible products appear in ChatGPT, and the purchase is completed on your own store in a browser inside the app. Microsoft Copilot and, for select merchants, Google AI Mode and Gemini can complete checkout in the chat. Buying through these channels is currently limited to US shoppers.

How does the checker read my store?

Two ways, both public. First, through Shopify’s own channel for AI shopping agents: every Shopify store has it, it needs no login or token, and it returns your products and policies exactly as AI shopping assistants get them. Second, by opening your homepage, robots.txt and your top product’s page like an AI crawler does: plain HTML, no JavaScript. It only opens pages your robots.txt allows.

Why does it only check 3 products?

Your top products matter most, and a few products keep the check quick and light on your store. Most problems come from the theme, an app or how products are set up, so they repeat across your catalog: fix them once and they’re fixed everywhere. Products with the same name are only checked once.

Why is there a limit of 3 checks a day?

Each check makes a few requests to the store. The limit keeps it light on stores, and stops it being used to crawl other people’s stores.

Does it work for stores that aren’t on Shopify?

No. It reads Shopify’s own channel for AI shopping agents, which only Shopify stores have.

What does “without JavaScript” mean?

Your browser runs scripts that add things to the page after it loads: often reviews, prices changed by apps, tabs and widgets. Most AI crawlers don’t run those scripts; they read the HTML your server sends. The checker reads your top product’s page the same way.
